The first day back to school always comes with a lot of hype, and this January was no different. I let myself get caught up in the cycle of wondering, worrying, and overthinking it. But when it came down to it, I know how to do my job, and my students—bless them—are mostly good listeners. Sure, every class has those few that could derail the vibe if left unchecked, but even those vibe shifters were surprisingly chill today. It helped break the ice, and just like that, we’re back at it.
Everyone did a good job—me included! That’s saying something because I battled some terrible stomach aches throughout the day. With no assistant in sight it was all about survival at times. Funny enough, they sent someone to help the entire floor, but she got pulled into subbing for another grade almost instantly. So yes, Jedi mind tricks it was.
Now, I’m trying to figure out how to manage tomorrow. I think the stomach aches might be my body rebelling against my vacation eating schedule. During break, I’d wake up at 3 or 5 a.m., sip coffee, and eat breakfast a few hours later. But during school? Breakfast is skipped entirely, which probably isn’t helping. It’ll take a few more days of adjustments (and Jedi mastery) to find a new balance. And yes, the whole “breakfast makes me feel fat” thing doesn’t help either. Weight struggles—always a vibe killer.
Now that I’m home, I thought I’d dive into writing, but my brain isn’t quite in the right place to tackle stories yet. Instead, here I am, talking to you. A safe place to spill my thoughts without the worry of making anyone go cross-eyed with my rambling. You made it! Thanks for being here.
So, the big question: Should I get busy on my stories, or should I worry about real life? Honestly? Real life sucks. Stories? So much more fun.
